The 31 card game (also called Thirty One, Scat, Blitz, Schwimmen or Hosn Obe) is played by two to four players with a 32-card deck (7–10, J, Q, K, A). Each player has one to three lives, shown by matchsticks.
Each player receives three cards. Three more cards are placed face-up in the center of the table.
Card values:
Card – Value
Ace – 11
King, Queen, Jack, Ten – 10
Nine – 9
Eight – 8
Seven – 7
Score points by collecting cards of the same suit (Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, Spades).
Three special card combinations:
1. Three cards of the same face value (e.g. three Kings) = 30½ points.
2. An Ace plus two 10-point cards of the same suit = a "Blitz" or "31" – the round ends immediately and the player(s) with the fewest points lose a life.
3. Three Aces = "Fire" – the round ends immediately and ALL other players lose a life.
A game with very simple rules that is fun for players of all ages.
Each player receives three cards. The dealer can choose to put three new cards from the deck into the center, or swap their own hand into the center and draw a new hand from the deck.
On each turn you can choose one of four actions:
1. Exchange one of your cards with one from the center.
2. Swap your entire hand with the three center cards.
3. Pass / Knock – if you don't want to make any card changes, pass to the next player.
4. Knock – if you believe you won't have the lowest score, indicate the last round.
If all players pass in the same round, the center cards are replaced with three new cards from the deck.
The first to reach 31 points – or "Fire" – wins the round.
After a knock, the player with the fewest points loses a life (matchstick).
Once all matchsticks are gone, the player is considered "swimming" – they can still play but losing one more round means "drowning" and they are out. The last player remaining wins the game.
I love this game – I used to play it when I was a kid. It's easy to use with beautiful graphics. The developers' website works great too!
Great entertainment on the go. Lots of users, so there are always players available to compete against.
Well implemented. Great that you can play online with others and that the cards are dealt fairly. Everyone has a chance to win. Highly recommended!
Really well thought out and brilliantly executed! Initial issues were fixed immediately! Can only recommend it!
Yes! HosnObe / Schwimmen / 31 is also approved for children. Please be mindful when chatting with other players – your opponent may be a minor. Offensive, racist or inappropriate messages will result in an immediate ban without warning.
The app can be downloaded for free in the App Store and Play Store. Additional credits for online multiplayer games can be purchased in the app. No credits are needed for training games against the computer.
Voucher codes can be redeemed in the Shop menu within the app.
HosnObe / Schwimmen / 31 is a mobile app available in the App Store (iOS) and Play Store (Android). Desktop versions (Windows / macOS / Linux) are not available.
Cards are always dealt completely randomly, regardless of whether you're playing against a human or the computer. Whether a player has purchased credits, won frequently, or lost frequently has absolutely no effect on the random card distribution.
The computer opponents in training games or when a player leaves an online game follow very simple rules. They don't even remember which cards they played in the previous round. They make no mistakes, which makes them appear strong – but skilled players have a definite advantage over computer opponents.
"Artificial Intelligence" is an overstatement. On each move the computer simply checks the following conditions:
1. Check if there is a card in the center that would increase hand points. If multiple cards qualify, swap the one yielding the most points.
2. If multiple cards improve points equally, swap the one with the lowest hand value.
3. Check if it is better to swap the entire hand.
4. If no swap improves points, check:
a. Knock if hand points exceed 23 after round 1.
b. Knock if hand points exceed 26 after round 2.
c. Knock if hand points exceed 27 from round 3 onwards.
d. Otherwise pass.
HosnObe / Schwimmen / 31 has many regional rule variants. We aim to keep the app simple with as few special rules as possible. If many players request a specific rule, we may add it in a future update.
In our Schnopsn Online app, some players tried to sell credits to other players by starting a game and immediately leaving. To prevent this and protect all players' in-game stakes, a computer takes over for any player who leaves early. Since the computer receives cards just as randomly as a human player, the remaining players are not disadvantaged.
We can only offer the app for free because we cover server and development costs through in-game advertising after each game. Since credits have real value, a 5-credit game lasting as long as a 1000-credit game would cost us more than we earn from ads and in-app purchases.
Pick up one card and drag it over the remaining two cards. More help is available within the app – tap the question mark in the main menu at the bottom.

To play against other players online, you need to stake your own credits. Choose from four online rooms with different minimum stakes: 5, 50, 250 or 1000 credits. The number of lives (matchsticks) varies by room.
There are five ways to get credits:
1. 250 credits on first install. 20 credits every 24 hours when opening the app.
2. Buy credit packs in the Shop menu (100, 500 or 1000 credits).
3. Redeem voucher codes from our Facebook page.
4. Win 5 credits by winning a training game.
5. Win the entire pot by winning an online game!
When you win a 4-player game in the 5-credit room, you receive the 15-credit stakes of the other players. Your own 5-credit stake was already deducted when you joined – so winning 20 credits total means a net gain of 15 credits.
If the app detects that data is not being transmitted correctly to our servers, it must remove the player immediately to prevent the entire game from losing synchronization. The app then attempts to connect to several servers before confirming a true disconnect – only then is NO automatic credit refund issued.
